Scalp Psoriasis

Scalp psoriasis is one of the most common forms of psoriasis and often shows before other psoriasis diseases. The disease manifests itself either as thickened skin that can spread outside the hairline, as a well-defined hat inside the hairline or as individual spots. Healthy hair grows and penetrates unhindered through the scales. There is no risk of hair loss. Hair roots are located deep under the skin and are not affected. In contrast to dandruff formation, which affects the entire scalp, scalp psoriasis can be concetrated to clearly defined areas and leaving other areas unaffected. Dandruff of the scalp does not feel when you drag your fingers through your hair. At scalp psoriasis, however, you can feel a scale-like structure, which is due to the accumulation of scales, which in turn is held together by the hair. High amounts of sebum is also characteristic of scalp psoriasis.
